Over the past year, Jiho has rewritten the script on crypto community building.

Mission?

To conquer the gaming world.

Secret weapon?

An unassuming Pokemon-like Trojan horse in the form of an NFT card game that propelled Axie Infinity to the top of the crypto world.

As the head of growth and community at Sky Mavis, the game studio behind Axie, Jeff cultivated and developed new audiences for Axie's Play-to-earn model in the Philippines. Every day, tens of thousands of Filipinos play Axie both for entertainment and as a source of income subsidy. The Philippines now accounts for 40% of Axie’s user base, and Sky Mavis recently surpassed 1 million daily active users.

Axie's evangelist is unlikely to face a shortage of demand, as the native token AXS (whose design was led by Jeff) delivered a return of 125,000% over the past year (not a typo, it's 1,250x). However, some fans insist that Axie might just be the beginning, with Jiho and the team having a much bigger vision ahead.

Axie Infinity itself serves as the bootstrapping mechanism for Sky Mavis's Ronin exchange, a sidechain related to Ethereum designed to facilitate cheap and gamer-friendly transactions. Since May, Ronin has generated $1 billion in revenue and holds over $9 billion in assets, making it the second-largest blockchain for NFT secondary sales. Sky Mavis is one of the fastest-growing game studios in history, raising $152 million in Series B funding led by a16z in 2021. The company put the finishing touches on its walled garden built around Ronin before launching its token ($RON) and decentralized exchange (Katana) in the fall of 2021. They are now set to launch an entirely new web3-focused game and app studio for their hungry (and wealthy) fanbase.

Axie's success has sparked an entirely new genre (crypto games) and subgenre (Play-to-Earn games), with approximately $1.4 billion flowing into related NFT projects alone in Q3. Meanwhile, Ronin has become one of the case studies for crypto modular scaling.

This furry, cartoonish card game has opened up new possibilities.
